Organization Profile

Located in Chicago's northern suburbs, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare is an academic health system affiliated with Northwestern University and the Feinberg School of Medicine.  Our integrated delivery system includes Evanston, Glenbrook and Highland Park Hospitals as well as the ENH Home Services, ENH Medical GroupENH Research Institute, and the ENH Foundation.

Evanston Hospital

With a history dating to 1891, Evanston Hospital is the nucleus of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. Affiliated with Northwestern University since 1930, Evanston Hospital demonstrates leadership in cancer and cardiac care, providing specialized cancer services at The Kellogg Cancer Care Center and comprehensive heart care at the Cardiovascular Care Center. Physicians work alongside leading researchers to translate the latest technology, treatment and research into improved patient care. As the regional center for high-risk obstetrics, the Women’s Hospital offers a comfortable birthing environment where high-risk mothers and their babies have access to the latest technology and a highly-trained staff. The hospital is also a licensed Level I Trauma Center.

Recently, we invested in advanced technology and in a better physical environment for both patients and staff. Patients and visitors now enter a dramatic three-story atrium with a waterwall and fireplace; a business center allows visitors to use their time productively while a family member receives treatment. Among other improvements is a remodeling of ambulatory surgery to bring patient registration, operating rooms and a family lounge together in one convenient place.

Glenbrook Hospital

Opened in 1977, Glenbrook Hospital is a 143-bed hospital facility offering high-tech medical care in a community hospital setting. Few hospitals of its size deliver such diverse services as cardiac care including cardiac catheterization and ultra fast CT scan, total hip and knee replacement, the Eye and Vision Center for LASIK and other eye surgery, and neurological services including a new sleep center, a cognitive and memory disorder program and a Parkinson's Disease clinic. Glenbrook Hospital also features a top notch GI suite with advanced technology. Paired with a highly qualified team of physicians, the gastroenterology program is among the strongest in the region for research, diagnosis and treatment. Children's at Glenbrook provides outpatient pediatric services and ambulatory surgery in partnership with Children's Memorial Hospital.

A Level II Trauma Center, the Emergency Department of Glenbrook Hospital has been ranked number one in the nation for patient satisfaction, and features a Fast Track service for prompt responsive treatment of minor illnesses and injuries.

Also in Glenview, the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Suite at the Glenview Park District Park Center offers a variety of services including an Integrative Medicine Program, appointments with physicians in Rheumatology and Physical Medicine, rehabilitation services, community wellness programs and a retail herbal store.

Highland Park Hospital

Founded in 1918, Highland Park Hospital has provided high-quality healthcare for more than 80 years. The 239-bed hospital is the site of the first open heart surgery in Lake County. The new Ambulatory Care Center offers advanced capabilities, including multi-disciplinary cancer care at the Kellogg Cancer Care Center, a CT/PET Scan for diagnostics and a CT Simulator and Linear Accelerator for radiation therapy. With a renovated Emergency Room, Highland Park Hospital participates as the region’s "pod" hospital for disaster response activities, coordinating Lake County’s efforts when confronted with a disaster. A wide variety of mental health services, including a center for eating disorders, adolescent psychiatric care and the Doreen E. Chapman Center for substance abuse, are also available.

ENH Home Services

This hospital-based, nonprofit agency offers a full spectrum of home care services including skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, hospice, private duty nursing and home medical equipment. The caregivers of ENH Home Services represent a wide range of medical specialties and work with the patient, family and physician to tailor home care to meet the individual needs of each patient.

ENH Medical Group

ENH Medical Group is comprised of 463 employed primary and specialty care physicians throughout the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago. A single unified medical staff is in place for the system. Physicians can admit patients to any of the three hospitals. Most attending physicians are on faculty at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. David P. Winchester is the Chairman of the ENH Medical Group Board of Directors.

ENH Research Institute

Established in 1996, the Institute serves as a focal point for more than 1,000 active research projects and over 150 externally funded research faculty. Priority areas for research are medical genetics, cancer, neurosciences, advanced imaging research, cardiovascular, peri-neonatal, outcomes research. The Research Institute has approximately 125,000 net square feet of research space. Included is a collaborative building with Northwestern University on its Evanston Campus called the Arthur and Gladys Pancoe-Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Life Sciences Pavilion, and the Charles R. Walgreen Jr. Building on the Evanston Hospital campus. Emphasis is on translational and clinical research allowing discoveries from the basic sciences and engineering to be brought promptly to the bedside.  Funding from the NIH places the hospitals of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare among the top 10 multi-specialty independent research hospitals in the country.

ENH Foundation

Created in 2003, the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Foundation strives to enhance philanthropic support and develop strategies to build advocacy for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and the world-class care it provides.

The ENH Foundation is dedicated to assisting Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in fulfilling its mission to "preserve and improve human life." It seeks to obtain the philanthropic support required to ensure that Evanston Northwestern Healthcare can provide medical care, advanced research, and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. It builds relationships with individuals and the community to increase awareness of high quality services and giving opportunities. The ENH Foundation also assures that contributions are used wisely and appropriately.

Evanston Northwestern Healthcare has had continuous community support throughout its history. However, with falling reimbursements, rising high tech costs, and escalating malpractice insurance we must now broaden our support.
