How Can I Prevent Colorectal Cancer?
According to the American Cancer Society, you can take important steps to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer when you:

Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day

Substitute chicken and fish for red meat
-
Get regular exercise at least 30 minutes every day
-
Maintain a healthy weight
-
Avoid smoking and alcohol
-
Have a screening colonoscopy starting at age 50

How Can I Prevent Esophageal Cancer?
You can take important steps to reduce your risk of esophageal cancer when you:

Avoid smoking tobacco
-
Avoid heavy use of alcohol
-
Avoid consistent exposure to hot liquids or foods
-
Avoid poor oral hygiene
-
Avoid foods processed with nitrosamines (chemical product found in foods such as beer, fish, meat and cheese preserved with nitrite pickling salt)
-
Avoid contracting human papilloma virus (cogenital warts) infection, it has been recognized as a contributing factor.

Have a screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) for patients age of 40 with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms for a number of years.

Report to your primary physicians, when there is difficulty or pain upon swallowing.
