What is Neurology?
Neurology is the practice of medicine that focuses on the health of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves, which collectively are referred to as the nervous system. As your body’s communication and processing center, the nervous system is very important to your health and who you are. It lets you think, feel, control your body, and communicate. When a problem arises with your nervous system, you may have trouble moving, talking, feeling, reading, thinking, and doing things you normally do. A neurologist is a doctor specially trained to diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system. Neurologists treat patients with such neurological illnesses as stroke, movement disorders (Parkinson's disease), dementia and memory problems (Alzheimer's disease), sleep disorders, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, neuromuscular and peripheral nerve disorders, headache, women's neurological problems, epilepsy, and others.
