Clinical Trials
Daniel Ray, MD is the principle NorthShore University HealthSystem investigator of a collaborative effort spearheaded by Cornell University that involves 40 institutions worldwide on lung cancer. The I-ELCAP (International Early Lung Cancer Action Project) research effort will enroll and follow more than 35,000 high-risk patients (current or former smokers, age>45, 20 pack-years smoking) using low-dose spiral CT for early detection of lung cancer. This project uses a tested methodology and comprehensive database, and quality control measures to track each patient, and ensure the necessary follow-up. The new non-contrast low-dose GE lightspeed CT scanners are available at Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals. Referral from a primary care physician is required. To schedule an appointment, call 847.475.LUNG (5864). Information on the study is also available at www.ielcap.org.
Smoking Cessation
A custom-tailored program that builds a quitting strategy based on an individual's health status, smoking history and past attempts to quit. Our goal is to identify which smoking cessation technique or combination of methods is practical and realistic for you. The program provides screening for evidence of existing lung disease and offers influenza and pneumonia vaccinations for those who qualify.
Patients will be seen by a pulmonary specialist. Referrals will be made to a Health Psychologist or an Integrative Medicine specialist for interested patients. Call our Smoking Cessation Clinic for more information 847.570.3939.
