Urology

UrologyUrology encompasses disorders of the urinary, genital and reproductive organs.  Urologists are surgeons who are trained in the medical and surgical correction of disorders of the adrenal gland, kidney, ureter, bladder, urethra, prostate, testes, penis and scrotum—including a variety of inflammatory conditions, malformations and neoplasms (cancer). Urologists treat male and female patients in both adult and pediatric populations with urologic problems.

Conditions seen by Urologists include:

Minimally-Invasive Procedures

Urology has been a leader in the development and advancement of medical technology that allows a less invasive approach to surgery. Today, many urologic disorders can be treated without making any incisions in the skin (called Endourology)—allowing patients to return home on the day of the procedure or after a short hospital stay—or through small incisions (also called keyhole or Laparoscopic Surgery), requiring a shorter hospital stay. Laparoscopic Surgery allows the Urologist to operate on the adrenal gland, kidney, ureter, bladder, or prostate using a special camera that provides optimal vision. Smaller incisions mean patients experience less post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay and a more rapid recovery—allowing them to return quickly to their normal activities.
