The adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys, are a pair of organs which consist of two parts, both of which secrete hormones:

  • Cortex (outer region): Produces aldosterone (regulates blood pressure) and cortisol (regulates metabolism and the body’s response to stress).
  • Medulla (inner region): Produces stress hormones, including epinephrine and norepinephrine, which can increase blood flow, heart rate and glucose levels.
