This ACGME-accredited one-year joint Medical Microbiology Fellowship offers extensive clinical and laboratory experience in a university clinical microbiology laboratory (University of Chicago) and a multi-hospital community microbiology laboratory (NorthShore-Endeavor Health). Fellows gain hands-on experience in all areas of microbiology, serology, and healthcare epidemiology through a series of structured bench rotations, conferences, and independent research as well as laboratory management experience. Trainees who successfully complete the program are eligible for subspecialty certification in Medical Microbiology through the American Board of Pathology (ABP).
Fellows obtain their training rotating through the microbiology, immunology, and molecular laboratories at the University of Chicago, NorthShore Evanston Hospital and the Chicago Department of Public Health.
Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent with ECFMG certification), be Board eligible or certified in AP/CP or CP, or have completed one year of clinical infectious disease training after Board certification in internal medicine, pediatrics, or both. Applicants must be eligible for an Illinois medical license.
Stipends are commensurate with the level of training.
