Dr. Akhil K. Seth is a double board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at NorthShore University HealthSystem. He serves as the Director of Reconstructive Microsurgery for the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at the Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Seth then completed a general surgery residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, followed by comprehensive training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Harvard. His training was further supplemented by an advanced fellowship in breast reconstruction and microsurgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Along with his extensive training and clinical abilities, Dr. Seth is well-regarded as an avid researcher and educator. He has given over 60 presentations at national meetings and has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, including several on implant- and flap-based breast reconstruction. He also serves as the NorthShore University HealthSystem Site Director for the University of Chicago Plastic Surgery Residency.

Dr. Seth’s practice focuses on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, in particular of the breast and body. His areas of expertise include:

  • Breast reconstruction after cancer (TRAM/DIEP flaps, thigh-based flaps, latissimus flaps, implants, oncoplastic surgery)
  • Aesthetic breast surgery (augmentation, lifting and reduction)
  • Body contouring (abdomen, thighs, arms and liposuction)
  • Complex reconstruction after trauma or cancer
  • Abdominal wall reconstruction
  • Office-based facial rejuvenation (Botox, soft-tissue fillers)
  • Aesthetic facial surgery (face, neck, eyelids)
